From the brand

How did we get our start?
In the early 1920’s, Ralph K. Odor started work on a new airplane design. By the 1930’s, his patented Power Vortex design influenced modern aviation. The Vornado Plane derived its name from “Vortex” and “Tornado”, based on its pioneering aerodynamics.
What makes our products unique?
Vornado was founded on the premise that comfort should be constant, bucking the trends of oscillation and utilitarian design. That still holds true today with a broad range of products that enhance efficiency and keep everyone comfortable all year long.

The Vornado Difference
AirTensity Spiral Grill
The special twist of the AirTensity grill creates a spiral effect that allows the air to travel throughout the whole room.
Enclosed Air Duct
By enclosing the deep pitch blades in a cylindrical duct, air is sculpted into a high-velocity column that powers through hot and cold zones.
Deep Pitch Blades
Heavily contoured blades maximize the amount of air moved with each turn of Vornado’s high-powered motor.
Inlet Air Accelerator
The specially sized inlet directs air to the most effecient parts of the blades to increase airflow.

Love this fan but a little tricky to clean
I went right to my phone to buy 2 more!!
but it doesn’t oscillate. I might have forgotten to look for that feature. The only thing I would change is the loudness at full speed. For now the outside temps have decreased and on low speed, it’s much quieter. It has become white noise. I am super happy to have found this fan. I highly recommend it!
I have to say I love this fan. I have one window AC unit to cool my dining room and my living room. On really hot days it’s not quite strong enough to cool it to my liking. (which is Alaska like). I use the Vornado pedestal fan to push the cool air from the dining room into the living room and it works brilliantly! You can literally feel the breeze from this fan all the way across the room at 20 feet away. I worried it was not as powerful as my old fan since it seemed much quieter, but it is definitely more powerful.
I have not tried to clean it yet so we will see it if my review changes after I try. But as of right now, I would highly recommend it even though it is a little pricey. Definitely seems worth it to me.
I used to buy the $30.00 ones and they would last a summer or two. You get what you pay for when you buy one of these fans.
I need the sound of a fan to sleep so it was a no brainer.
My only negative thing that I could say is that they are loud and powerful if on full blast. If you put them on lower levels you will be fine.

From the very first encounter, it was evident that the Vornado 683 was not your average fan. Its sleek design and commanding presence demanded attention, as if it were a grand orchestra conductor ready to lead a symphony of refreshing air. And so, with mounting excitement, I switched it on, eagerly awaiting the gusts of rejuvenation that awaited me.
Ah, dear reader, the moment it sprang to life, a gentle yet powerful breeze washed over me, as if it had been sent by Aeolus himself. The 683's Vortex Action swiftly whisked away stagnant air, filling the room with a blissful ambience of coolness. It effortlessly circulated air throughout every nook and cranny, reaching even the remotest corners with its omnipotent breath. Say goodbye to stuffy rooms and welcome a realm of freshness!
But wait, there's more! The adjustable pedestal height made the 683 an accommodating companion, allowing me to tailor its presence to my whims. With a simple twist, I could change its height, directing its winds to my desired level of comfort. It's a fan that obeys your every command, faithfully delivering gusts of pleasure right where you need them.
Now, let me regale you with a tale of its whisper-soft operation. Yes, dear friend, the 683 is an emissary of tranquility. Unlike its noisy brethren, this marvel of engineering remains almost entirely silent, caressing your senses with a gentle murmur. It's as if a choir of tranquil breezes serenades you, soothing your soul as you bask in its cool embrace. I slept like a baby with the 683's harmonious lullaby accompanying my dreams.
Let's not forget its prowess in energy efficiency. The Vornado 683 is a true champion in this realm, defying the norms of power-hungry fans. With its energy-saving design, it consumes far less electricity than its competitors while still delivering an awe-inspiring gust of wind. It's a true ally in both your quest for comfort and your dedication to environmental sustainability.
In the realm of cleanliness, the 683 shines as brightly as the midday sun. Its detachable grill and blades made cleaning an effortless endeavor, ensuring that your beloved wind whisperer remains pristine throughout its life. No more gathering dust or tangled hair—it's a breeze to keep this fan in top-notch condition!
So, fellow seekers of ventilation perfection, heed my words: the Vornado 683 Medium Pedestal Whole Room Air Circulator Fan is not just a fan; it's a soul-soothing, breeze-summoning masterpiece. Its ethereal winds will whisk away your troubles, refreshing your very essence. Whether you seek relief from the summer's sweltering heat or a calming breeze on a cozy winter eve, this fan is a reliable companion through every season.
Embrace the transformative power of air circulation and let the Vornado 683 enchant your life with its mystical winds. Trust me, my friends, you won't be disappointed. Let it be known that in the vast realm of fans, the Vornado 683 reigns supreme—an ethereal champion of cooling perfection.
Wind be with you!
I had to purchase all new fans for my west facing condo in a steel framed building that holds the heat in (or cold in winter).
New England weather lives up to its name for being crazy and this Vornado arrived on a 85 degree day with no breeze. It took all of 5 minutes to assemble and within a minute of putting it on the highest setting, the cooling and air circulation made me feel human again. I even had to put a light blanket on last night as pointed at me from over 20 feet away, it felt like almost like air conditioning.
While the newer stand is a bit cheap-looking, compared to my 12-year-old one that was a round disc, it has the same power.
For reference: I have 2 Lasko pedestal fans that I gave away as they just don't cool on high.
New purchases during May 2020 were the 660 Vornado floor fan, which circulates air beautifully in my 700 sq ft open livingroom/kitchen and cools if pointed at me from across that distance.
This 683 Vornado, which does that same, but love the pedestal height. These two Vornado's in the livingroom are all I need until the AC is on in my building. They will also save money as most days I won't need the electric -powered AC convector on as these are sufficient for cooling.
A Pelonis 16inch oscillating pedestal fan with remote that has no cooling power and can't be felt even 2 ft away (could have been damaged in transit as the box was thin, ripped and taped everywhere (going back when I find a box for it)
and a Pelonis table 12" fan that has a defect in the grill, oscillates, no remote and is somewhat okay in the bedroom, but lacks any real power. It does has some cooling at 5 ft away maximum. Both Pelonis fans were for the 500 sq ft bedroom. Vornado's for the livingroom.
All were purchased through Amazon. I wish I had just bought a third Vornado for the price of the two Pelonis fans as one Vornado has more cooling power and circulation than 3 fans put together.
Will update this review if the new Vornado fans don't last like my old ones. Other than that, if you need real cooling and air, a Vornado is the only fan to purchase (except for those tiny Vornado Flippi's. Bought one last year for my bathroom and was very disappointed as really no cooling or circulation, even up close).
As to noise - Both Vornado fans are almost silent and all but the highest speed. On high, the sound of whooshing air is quite audible, but not unpleasant.
